Handling, Installation and Aftercare Instructions

Post Image

While vacuum glazing is a new product to most people, most of the instructions for care, handling and installation are similar to traditional double glazing units.

General
  1. Nu.Gen Glass and our partners reserve the right to adjust or modify parameters of the products without prior notice
  2. Consult Nu.Gen Glass for any questions regarding this document or the product
  3. Vacuum glazing should only be installed by those competent to do so
  4. Nu.Gen Glass reserves the right to perform any modification and updates to the contents of this document
Handling
  • Remember glass is heavy and requires careful handling
  • During moving or storage processes, all glass should be kept in upright direction, and should not be stacked horizontally
  • Do not lay flat
  • Avoid package sliding or tumbling
  • If the package appears damaged or soaked open carefully and with support as the contents may be unstable
  • Wear proper PPE during handling, unpacking, installation, use, and maintaining
  • When handling or lifting, pay attention to the centre of gravity of the package to avoid it overturning
  • When handling vacuum insulated glass, use proper tools to prevent injuries and damage to the products and/or workers
  • Due to the characteristics of tempered glass, the glass may spontaneously fail without any forewarning
  • When placed in upright direction, the long side of the glass should be kept in parallel with the ground. According to the size of the glass, place two or more supporting blocks between the edge and ground. Do not use hard materials as the supporting blocks that have contact with the glass edge
  • During handling, moving or installation processes, please handle with care to avoid having glass edges being bumped or impacted
  • When installing skylights or working on high-rise buildings, a safety zone below the construction spot should be properly secured and monitored by designated personnel to restrict access and prevent injuries from falling materials
  • When glass is installed at great heights, scaffolding should be set up or other safety measures taken
  • If glass is broken, it should be dealt with only when wearing protective gear
Cleaning

When cleaning the glass be careful not to scratch the surface. Do not clean with alkaline, acidic, or corrosive cleaning solvents.

Installation

Each unit is delivered with a protective film. We recommend this is left in place up until the moment of installation. Peel back the edges of the film for bedding whilst leaving the main body of film in place to protect the glass from dust and debris.

The internal facing surface depends on the version supplied: (please check if unsure). A label may be attached to the panes.

Generally the side denoted by the Red Edge seal will face to the outside, with the White Edge to the Inside of the room. The locations of the extraction point and getter(s) may vary with type. (See separate Technical Information).

The frame into which the glass is to be fitted must be flat and devoid of twists and warps. Do not be tempted to force the glass/frame together if one part does not sit flat.

Adjust the frame to take out any twist.

Centralise the glass unit into the frame rebate with setting blocks with regular spacing along the edge.

LandVac must be bedded into a non-setting glazing compound such as:

  • Butyl Glazing Tape or Hand applied Butyl Putty
  • Security Glazing tape and capped with silicon after installation
  • Neutral Cure Glazing Silicone
  • Heritage Putty

A bedding thickness of 2 – 3mm is recommended.

Clearance around the glass edge into the glazing rebates of a minimum of 2mm is recommended. With a fully bedded system a Neutral Cure Glazing Silicone or equal must be used to fill the void around the glass edge to avoid water ingress.

Avoid pinning timber glazing beads too tight to the glass surface.

Pinsor nails must not touch the glass surface. Push pins may be used for temporary holding whilst silicone sets, then they should be removed prior to ‘facing up’.
